Inspired 03 : Painted

Third installment of my new set of blog posts showcasing some inspiring images I've found over the last week. Todays theme is Painted. I love the make-up can be so versatile and used in so many different ways.
I'm planning a new shoot, which will involved some elaborate makeup so I've been hunting for inspirational images such as these.

I hope you enjoy these images as much as I do and hopefully they can provide you with some inspiration too

Please show the artists some love if you get a minute
Enjoy

Recent shoots- Look books, tests and agency models!

May 2011 Fashion Tests - Elke Bonner @ Bookings

This shoot was with model Elke Bonner @ Bookings model agency. It was styled by Bonnie Carr, who also designed these lovely outfits. Having good quality clothes to work with makes such a big difference and Elke posed wonderfully in Bonnie's clothes. The makeup artist was Lesley Vye, who did a great job of creating a natural, low key look.

As we know, fashion shots are all about the clothes - I know a lot of people try to style shoots themselves but honestly having someone on the shoot that knows about the clothes; how they move, how the material falls and how the outfits should best be worn makes a huge difference and I hope to work with stylists a lot more often!

We were blessed with good weather and able to shoot in Lesley's friends garden. The feel for the shoot was girly, feminine and clean to compliment the floral patterns on the clothing and the pretty garden made the perfect setting for this.

Here are some of the final images from the shoot
(NB: the colours are much better quality on the versions on my site!)

Pole Art - what would you like to see next?

I have a number of image ideas for the Pole Art series but I wanted to ask you what you thought about them.

I don't want all the photos to look the same so I've been trying to think of new perspectives/colours/outfits to shoot but what I really want to know is what do you think?

  • Are there any particular camera angles you prefer/think work best?
  • Any colour backdrops/background textures you'd like to see?
  • Any particular style of outfit?
  • Which is your favourite image so far and why?
  • Or maybe there are some moves you'd like to see?

Any other elements you would like to see, perhaps executed differently or to have a completely new idea tried, do let me know as I'd love to hear about what you'd like to see.

The images in the Pole Art series can be viewed here

All I will say is that I want to keep the feel of the image stays true to the whole idea of Pole Art (i.e. to show the artistry of it and to show strength/flexibility/grace/dignity) I'm more than happy to try any ideas you come up with. I'd really appreciate your input

Thank you

p.s. I will try and get another model sometime; it's just hard as I don't really know any other polers so I just have to make do with modeling myself :giggle:

Summer time assisting

Well haven't we had a glorious couple of days here in the UK. Everyone is feeling more positive and the sun is blazing... It's days like today that make me wish I liked Pimms

New things are happening; I've been assisting a lot recently, which has been great fun. I've been getting up at 5AM, driving to London (2 hours... if I'm lucky), working for 12 hours, driving home (2 hours.... again if I'm lucky), getting back late, having 4 hours sleep and then doing it all again the next day. Despite very long days, lots of heavy lifting on shoots and coming home feeling like I've been working on site, what I have learnt so far has been invaluable and I can safely say I'm really looking forward to the other assisting jobs I have lined up. You don't realise how much you have to learn until you work with other people who are at a stage in their career that you want to be in. Not only have I picked up lots of industry tips and tricks, I've also met some wonderful people. It's hugely refreshing to finally be out meeting people on a day to day basis that share the same passion and interests.

I actually wrote an article about photographic assisting for photography magazine Photo Pro, if anyone's interested it is in the March 2011 issue and I believe back issues of the magazine are available from their website (http://www.photopromagazine.com/) if you wanted to have a read.

It looks like this:

I've also started doing fashion shoots on location and have been working with natural light. I felt it was time to get away form the comfort of studio lighting that I have become familiar with and take a step outside my comfort zone. I'm going through the rest of the photos from the shoot so I'll have a few up here asap along with some behind the scenes from the shoot
