Summer time assisting

Well haven't we had a glorious couple of days here in the UK. Everyone is feeling more positive and the sun is blazing... It's days like today that make me wish I liked Pimms

New things are happening; I've been assisting a lot recently, which has been great fun. I've been getting up at 5AM, driving to London (2 hours... if I'm lucky), working for 12 hours, driving home (2 hours.... again if I'm lucky), getting back late, having 4 hours sleep and then doing it all again the next day. Despite very long days, lots of heavy lifting on shoots and coming home feeling like I've been working on site, what I have learnt so far has been invaluable and I can safely say I'm really looking forward to the other assisting jobs I have lined up. You don't realise how much you have to learn until you work with other people who are at a stage in their career that you want to be in. Not only have I picked up lots of industry tips and tricks, I've also met some wonderful people. It's hugely refreshing to finally be out meeting people on a day to day basis that share the same passion and interests.

I actually wrote an article about photographic assisting for photography magazine Photo Pro, if anyone's interested it is in the March 2011 issue and I believe back issues of the magazine are available from their website (http://www.photopromagazine.com/) if you wanted to have a read.

It looks like this:

I've also started doing fashion shoots on location and have been working with natural light. I felt it was time to get away form the comfort of studio lighting that I have become familiar with and take a step outside my comfort zone. I'm going through the rest of the photos from the shoot so I'll have a few up here asap along with some behind the scenes from the shoot
